Travis is an AcroYoga Montreal certified instructor and co-founded the acro style of "Awkroyoga," or awkward acroyoga, which embraces the odd and uncomfortable space that presents itself when trying something new. Long before we find strong, perfect lines, we have to move through many awkward moments. What happens when we move towards the awkwardness, laughing all along the way? In this four hour workshop, we'll start by focusing on important building blocks to the acro practice, honing in our strength and sensitivity. With that solid foundation, we'll move on to fun, expressive, and explorative movements. For the first half of this workshop, we'll be working on refinements of the foundations—foot to hand, star, and partner hand balancing. If these are new to your practice, this is a place where you can learn some important fundamentals. If this is well within your practice, there will be material to strengthen and refine at your level. Think reps and precision—the always-expanding building blocks to keep growing your acro practice. For the second half, we'll take that groundwork of technique, connection, and listening, and turn it into expression and play. Discover what arises when we mix structure, lack of structure, and experimentation. Be warned: this may induce giggles and change your mood. Let's discover together! Prerequisites: Experience with inversions and foot to hand helpful, but not required. About Travis: Travis (they/them) has been an acroyoga fanatic since 2008. Their love for acro is rooted in rediscovering childlike play, platonic touch, trust building, and embodiment. As an AcroYoga Montreal certified teacher, they love to teach creative processes and their own strange sequences. What truly inspires them is combining a playful demeanor with a mindfulness on technique and caring for the body—our own and our partners'. This is their formula for sustainable joy.
